Biography & Candidate Statement

I am a dedicated library professional with over 20 years of experience in the field. When I graduated from college with a BA in English from Sacramento State University, I wanted to pursue a career in teaching. After substitute teaching for a few years in K-12 classrooms, I decided to choose a different path. My love of reading and dedication to public service led me into library sciences. I earned my MLIS degree from San Jose State University while working full time as an LMTA at a local community college.

I guess I could be called a jack-of-all-trades librarian, having worked in school, academic, public and prison settings. I am currently the Senior Librarian at Mule Creek State Prison.

I am running for the office of Board Member at Large because I love the California Library Association. I want to make sure the true diversity of our

profession is represented on the board. After all, we are not a library association dedicated solely to public libraries.

I’ve attended CLA Annual Conferences for most of my professional career, and have served on CLA committees. I was a member of the 2019-2020 CLA Developing Leaders in California Libraries Cohort. I know the true value of the professional development and networking opportunities available through CLA, and look forward to sharing these vital resources with California library staff from all corners of our profession.
