MyCLA Info

What is MyCLA?

  • MyCLA is a social platform that brings together the power of social media, mobile responsive design, and activity analytics to deliver greater value to CLA members and leadership.
  • MyCLA is designed to increase social and community collaboration, connecting members to personalized, relevant content, experts and member benefits, while also allowing CLA leadership and staff to promote key campaigns, membership renewals, event registrations, online courses and paid job postings to boost revenue.
  • MyCLA combines a lot of the great features from a personal social networking site with the necessary features that a professional network should have. Members can log into their profile and quickly network with other CLA members while still accessing important information from CLA.
  • MyCLA will help turn periodic member engagement into stronger member connections.

In MyCLA you can:
  • Update your profile that is visible to other CLA members;
  • Search for other CLA members by interest group, committee, member type or employer/organization;
  • See which interest groups you have joined or find ones that you want to join;
  • Connect with other members to send messages to them from inside MyCLA.

How do I reach MyCLA?
  • Reach MyCLA by logging into CLA-net using either the Sign In link or the JOIN dropdown.

What happened to the interest group and committee email lists?
  • Each interest group or committee can be found under the "Group" tab in MyCLA;
  • Each interest group and committee have their own home page, forum and blog to communicate with their members;
  • Forums and blogs are where information is shared and discussion happens instead of email;
  • Individual CLA members can connect through MyCLA to message other CLA members.

How do I join or subscribe to a group?

Forums and blogs

Forums and Blogs enable communication between members within CLA-net. However, the order and structure of communication is different between the two.

Forums

Forums are threaded ongoing discussions. By default, the latest post will be moved automatically to the top of the list within a forum. Replies within a forum topic are sorted chronologically so the most recent reply always appears at the bottom. Forums also allow for internal quoting and the member’s head-shot profile photo is displayed in their forum posts.

Blogs

Blogs are always organized so that the latest post is at the top of the page, regardless of the addition of comments. Blogs do not pull member head-shot images, but do link to the posting member’s profile. Blogs also tend to be more anecdotal in tone whereas forums tend to be more professional, but they don’t necessarily have to be.

Additional Capabilities of Forums and Blogs

Both Forums and Blogs utilize a rich text format. This means photos, hyperlinks and videos can be embedded within posts. Both provide email subscription capabilities. You can subscribe to a blog and be notified via email when a new post or comment is added. Within Forums, you can subscribe to a forum digest that will send a single email containing all recent forum activity. If you want to be alerted immediately about forum activity, you can subscribe to a specific forum or to a specific forum topic to be notified of new replies that have just been posted.

How do I post to a forum?

To post to a group's forum you must belong to the group. To join a group:

  • Navigate to the My Profile Page
  • On the blue menu band click on Groups
  • Under "My Groups" you will see the groups you belong to; "Available Groups" shows groups you can join
  • To post to a forum, scroll down to the group or search for the group name, and then click on that group name
  • Click on Forums, then click on General Discussion and then "+NewTopic"
  • Enter a subject and your message and then click "Submit Post"
How do I learn about a new forum or blog post?

By default you'll get instant updates by email of a new forum post.  To change to digests of new posts navigate to the forum, select Forum Settings and click "unsubscribe from instant updates."
