In sunny Los Angeles, a lack of tree cover in low-income areas has left many residents especially vulnerable to rising heat. It's a legacy of the city's design as well as its history of racist policies. Journalist Alejandra Borunda documented this, "Shady Divide," in a cover story for National Geographic and will talk about the history that led to shade inequity across the city, the heat-related dangers arising from a lack of tree canopies in poorer areas, and some of the ways people are trying to fix the problem.

Streaming live on the library's YouTube channel and Facebook page.
