CALL TO ACTION: ACA 1-AGUIAR-CURRY SET FOR HEARING On Wednesday, March 27th the Assembly Local Government Committee at the California State Capitol, will be hearing ACA 1 by Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters). The measure, which is being supported by the California Library Association, will reduce the local vote threshold for the approval of public infrastructure local bond and special tax measures from the current two-thirds vote to a 55% majority. The measure could potentially benefit all types of public infrastructure, including but not limited to parks, flood control, libraries, streets, water quality, and broadband. The bill has been amended to include public libraries and to clarify that cities, counties, and “special districts” will all be eligible under the bill. CLA has submitted its support letter (see attached). Library supporters are also encouraged to submit their own letters of support. In your letters, please indicate if you have construction needs in your area and/or if you have recently gone out to the voters for a construction bond and were unsuccessful due to the high benchmark of the two-thirds vote requirement under current law. Please address your letters to Ms. Aguiar-Curry, who also Chairs the Assembly Local Government Committee: The Honorable Cecila Aguiar-Curry
