About the Presenters

Wess Garcia is a Programming Librarian with Rancho Cucamonga Library Services where he has worked on several projects including the Play and Learn Island™ project, Digital Literacy Grant, and participated in the Staff Innovation Fund.  In 2012 he worked closely with technology staff to create the “STEM Education” series at the library which now includes: Robotics, Video Game Design and Electrical Engineering workshops.  He loves creating programs that encourage people to learn about history and science.

Pam Carlson has been a children’s librarian for 30 years. During those years, she began the library at Orangewood Children’s Home in Orange County, had the opportunity to do a story time while visiting Russia as part of a teacher exchange program, and has presented numerous times for CLA. She currently serves as a reviewer for VOYA, is the California representative to the Collaborative Summer Library Program, and designed the SpecialConnect area for families with autism at the Main Library in Long Beach.

Brenda McIlroy is a Program Librarian at Santa Cruz Public Libraries. This means that she travels around the county with programs, activities and events for patrons of all ages. Brenda is a scientist and artist, and an active advocate for STEM/STEAM. She encourages the use of trash or “found treasures” for alternative maker spaces that are within the reach of everyone.
