ACTION ALERT:  OUTREACH TO ASSEMBLYMEMBERS – SUPPORT FOR ACA 1

The California Library Association is in strong support of ACA 1, a constitutional amendment authored by Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry.  The bill seeks to lower the local vote threshold for construction bonds and special taxes from the current two-thirds vote threshold to 55%.  The measure would apply to various local government projects such as roads, water, housing, public libraries, broadband, etc.

ACA 1 is currently on the Assembly Floor.  Recently, we asked you to contact your Assemblymember and encourage his or her support of the measure.  Since constitutional amendments require a two-thirds vote of the Assembly, every vote is important.  If you are represented by any the following individuals listed below, would you please take a moment to make a quick call to your Assemblymember and encourage his/her support of ACA 1.  These legislators are currently “undecided” regarding ACA 1:

Assemblywoman Sabrina Cervantes (D-Riverside) – (916) 319-2060

Assemblyman Ken Cooley (D-Rancho Cordova) – (916) 319-2008

Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham (R-San Luis Obispo) – (916) 319-2035

Assemblyman Tyler Diep (R-Westminster) – (916) 319-2072

Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens) – (916) 319-2058

Assemblyman Heath Flora (R-Ripon) – (916) 319-2012

Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin (D-Thousand Oaks) – (916) 319-2044

Assemblywoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D- Los Angeles) – (916) 319-2054

Assemblyman Chad Mayes (R-Yucca Valley) – (916) 319-2042

Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance) – (916) 319-2066

Assemblywoman Eloise Gomez Reyes (D-Grand Terrace) – (916) 319-2047

Assemblyman Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) – (916) 319-2032

Assemblywoman Christy Smith (D-Santa Clarita) – (916) 319-2038

When you call, please indicate your name and city, and then state that you are a constituent of the member listed above.  Explain that you are in support of ACA 1 as: 1) it will help to chip away at an estimated $4 billion in public library construction need in the state, and 2) it will allow local government projects to be approved locally with a 55% vote, which is the same vote threshold authority granted for school construction.  Finally, please tell the staffer who answers the phone that you respectfully request that [your Assemblymember] support ACA 1 when it is heard on the Assembly Floor.  (This exchange should take two minutes or less of your time.)

Assemblywoman Aguiar-Curry’s office provided CLA and other stakeholder groups with the two attachments included with this email.  We hope that you will find them helpful as you prepare to make your calls.  Time is of the essence.  Please make your calls today.

Thank you for your assistance.
