2013 CLA Conference - A Success!

Image: CLA 2012 logoThe 2013 Conference was a complete success. There was something for everyone and it seemed like everyone was there. The opening session with Henry Rollins was packed. He was inspirational and entertaining. He stayed and talked to every single person in line who wanted to have him sign a program or a CD. He’s obviously an archivist by nature, if he hadn’t been a punk rock star; I think he might have been a librarian.

The exhibit hall was packed with over 80 exhibitors. The Maker Space was a highlight as well as the Infopeople booth which is always a crowd pleaser. The silent auction and envelope fundraising campaign raised over $7,000 with checks still drifting in. Crowd sourcing the programs created a heightened interest and most of the sessions were full.  Special events were a hit as well. Dancing until midnight at the Prom and laughing until my sides hurt at Battledecks are some of my favorite memories. If you missed the talent show, you missed seeing some incredible acts- who knew you could do that with a hoola hoop…and wow! Can Jack sing!

A conference this size takes many volunteers to make it a success. Thank you to everyone who served on a committee, put together a program, or pitched in when asked. Support from staff was incredible, they were working hard they whole time and still managed to smile.
