Interest Group Spotlight

Public Libraries Interest Group

Recently revitalized, the Public Libraries Interest Group is planning two conference programs, on two very different topics!

Hoarders – Library Edition focuses on a habit many librarians have, hanging on to too much stuff!  A psychologist will walk the audience through why we hoard, then three Librarians will reveal how they tackle their own demons for paper efficiency, electronic efficiency, and a smooth workflow.

We are also coordinating with the UCLA Career Forum series to present “New MLIS! Same Old Job Hunt” which will bring together public library employers, agencies, and new graduates who are on the job hunt.  Learn how to leverage the experience you can bring to the table in this fierce job market.  Public libraries are hiring again, and you want your best foot in the door.

Join us for the Interest Group meeting to discuss the future of the Public Libraries IG. Should we focus on advocacy in these tough budget times? Should we start a newsletter for our members? Should we offer a Spring Fling program?  The choice is yours – and we want you there!

Public libraries continue to astound, amaze, and serve with offerings as diverse as California – from technology labs and maker spaces to programs such as social workers or nurses in the library.  The Public Libraries IG is here to serve all California public libraries and those who love them.
