Fairfax Festival Parade
Dr. Sylva Natalie Manoogian, PhD


CLA and iREAD are delighted to announce that Ericka Carr of Merced County Library and Janis Young of Ontario City Library have won gift certificates to the iREAD store!  Everyone who contributed programming ideas to the iREAD Paws to Read Resource Guide was eligible for the drawing and five names were selected at random. The three other winners were our summer reading colleagues in Illinois.  Congratulations Ericka and Janis -- have fun spending your prizes!

Suzanne Conrad won the New Author Award from the Midwest Archives Conference for her article "Analog, the Sequel:  An Analysis of Current Film Archiving Practice and Hesitance to Embrace Digital Preservation," which was published in July 2012 in Archival Issues.

Fairfax Branch Library staff, teen volunteers and County Supervisor Katie Rice marched in front of the Marin County Free Library Bookmobile in the Fairfax Festival Parade on June 8 to the cheers of adoring fans.  Wearing chef’s hats and aprons, and wielding ladles and spatulas, the marchers let the crowd know that “Reading is So Delicious!”

Sylva Natalie Manoogian has earned her PhD in Library and Information Science from UCLA GSE&IS. She was introduced twice as the oldest graduate student of the Class of 2013 during the Graduate Division's and Departments of Education and Information Studies Commencement/Hooding Ceremonies (June 13 and 15, 2013). Her dissertation is titled: The Calouste Gulbenkian Library, Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem, 1925-1990: An Historical Portrait of a Monastic and Lay Community Intellectual Resource Center. Dr. Sylva is 75 years young!

This summer, Hui-Lan Titangos, Collection Management Services Librarian at Santa Cruz Public Libraries, has her new book coming out, entitled Local Community in the Era of Social Media Technologies: A Global Approach.

As part of Chandos Publishing Social Media Series, the book is published by Chandos, Oxford, UK, and distributed by Neal-Schuman, an imprint of the American Library Association. It concentrates on the topic of social media technologies effectively helping libraries to connect their local communities to the wider world. Melanee Vicedo, MLIS has been promoted to Head of Education and Social Work Library Services at University of Southern California. She has serves as Social work Librarian at USC for two years.

Dr. Jade G. Winn, Chair of the CLA Academic Interest Group has been promoted to Assistant Dean of Instruction, Assessment and Engagement at the University of Southern California Libraries. Dr. Winn has been the Head of Education and Social Work Library Services at USC for three and a half years.
