Basic Cataloging with RDA: Session 2

Resource Description and Access (RDA) is the new cataloging standard designed to replace AACR2. This workshop offered a basic introduction to cataloging with RDA, focused on print monographs, and covered both description and access. Attendees participated in hands-on exercises which included use of tools and documentation in support of cataloging with RDA. Access to the online RDA Toolkit was provided. A take-home paper handout was provided as well as post-workshop access to the presentation slides.

The workshop was presented by CLA's Technical Services Interest Group and co-sponsored by the Northern California Technical Processes Group (NCTPG) and Southern California Technical Processes Group (SCTPG).

  • $65 CLA members, NCTPG members, and SCTPG members
  • $50 student members

About the presenters

Chamya Kincy is the Life & Social Sciences Cataloger, Cataloging & Metadata Center, UCLA. She has served as the Medical Library Association's liaison to the ALCTS CaMMS Committee on Cataloging: Description & Access. She has also served on the ALCTS CaMMS RDA Implementation Task Force and currently serves on the ALCTS CaMMS RDA Conference Forums and Programs Task Force.

Luiz Mendes is the Electronic Resources Librarian at CSU Northridge and the current President of Southern California Technical Processes Group (SCTPG). He also serves as a member of the ALCTS CaMMS RDA Implementation and Training Task Force and is a national trainer for the Library of Congress Cataloging for the 21st Century metadata courses. Luiz is an adjunct faculty member in the UCLA Department of Information Studies, where he teaches graduate courses on descriptive and subject cataloging.
