2011 Conference Report

And the exhibits are open! CLA Annual Conference 2011, Pasadena, CA

The 2011 conference, which was held in Pasadena, was a great event! The theme was “Creating the New Normal: The Journey Continues” and it was packed with outstanding preconferences and programs, a dynamic Exhibits Hall with over 140 vendors and exhibitors, and lots of informal networking opportunities.

On Saturday, keynote speaker Sir Ken Robinson spoke to a standing room-only crowd. After his talk, Sir Ken cheerfully signed book after book that attendees purchased from Better World Books—one of the conference’s official bookstores.

Following a lively Saturday evening that included the State Library Reception and Battledecks, Sunday started bright and early with CLA’s Membership Meeting, where president Paymaneh Maghsoudi handed the gavel to Wayne Disher. Susan Hildreth, Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, was our featured speaker at the meeting. Most of us know Susan from her long service in the state, including her time as California State Librarian, and she was warmly welcomed back to California.
