Jan Sanders for CLA Board Director

Statement of Concerns

I chose to run for the CLA Board because having worked with the Board this year, I know the issues, the procedures, and a bit of the history. Our organization is still in the formation stage as we move into this new kind of operation. I think I can help with that. I have the time and the backing of my home organization to give CLA the attention it deserves. California’s Library Association has the capacity and the savvy membership to grow into the premier, leading-from-the-edge organization we should be. Taking the results of the Eureka! model we’ve used for creating and sustaining new leaders puts us in line to run a strong, progressive race. I’d like to be part of that race.

Jan Sanders' Background

Hi. I’m Jan Sanders and I am running for Board Member at large. If my name is familiar, it might be because I ran for President last year but was bested by Derek Wolfgram—a fine choice, may I say. I am also currently CLA Treasurer and member of the Legislative Committee, and last year served as Program Chair for the 2011 conference here in Pasadena. I’ve only been in California 7 years, but have gobs of experience in other states: Washington, Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee, etc. where I was often a state officer. I am the Director of Pasadena’s Pubic Libraries and am having a great time with that. In previous lives I have been bookmobile librarian, children’s librarian, branch librarian, etc. You get the idea. Anyway, I love this profession and always strive to help others love it (and us!) as well. (If you have a burning need for more about me, check out the CLA Site under Board of Directors.)
