 Hillary Theyer for CLA Secretary

Statement of Concerns

During my time on the California Library Association Board of Directors, I have seen this organization join libraries of all kinds in California in stretching, adjusting, and renewing our commitment to the profession during this difficult time. There are no easy answers, and no guarantees of automatic success. The CLA I have been proud of consistently finds ways to meet the needs of our members, adjusts as times dictate, and continues to move forward and excel. One of the aspects of this excellence is the creation of the formal Secretary position on the Board. This position will ensure continuity of communications and proper keeping of the records of the organization. During times of change, it is too easy for decisions that were carefully considered and hard won to get lost, and the wisdom of current dedicated professionals to not serve future generations. This Board I have served with has brought CLA onto a great forward path, and we have the professionalism and dedication to keep serving our membership well.

 Hillary Theyer's Background

I have worked in public libraries since I was sixteen, following in the footsteps of a family of teachers and librarians. I attended UCLA for my MLS, then later returned to Cal State Long Beach for a Masters in Public Administration. I have worked for Beverly Hills Public Library, Sacramento Public Library, Folsom Public Library, and the Palos Verdes Library District before moving to the Torrance Public Library in 1999. Here at Torrance I have been a Youth Services Librarian, Senior Librarian, and Principal Librarian of Public Services before proudly serving as City Librarian since mid 2011. I have been honored to serve on the CLA Board for three years, and am a member of ALA, and PLA.
