CLA’s fourth annual Spring Fling series was a great success again this year. Over 300 people attended Spring Fling programs in libraries and online where members of the California library community were joined by participants from as far afield as Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York, and Alaska!

As always, the Spring Fling reflected the diversity of CLA members’ interests. Some participants took training workshops—in music cataloging, new management styles, academic library careers, delivering distance library services, maintaining graphic novel collections, and web usability and developing applications with AJAX and jQuery. Others enjoyed private tours of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and the Bullocks Wilshire Building / Leigh H. Taylor Law Library, where a historic building has been adapted for law school and library purposes. Students participated in an “unconference”-style collaborative professional development event. And literacy professionals applauded the achievements of California’s adult learners at the annual Writer to Writer awards ceremony.

Participants said:

“Today’s program is the best I have attended, and I’ve attended a lot.”
“Thanks so much!!! The session was perfect.”
“The presenters were awesome. They were knowledgeable and personable and exactly what a presenter should be.”
“What an incredible treat.”

For anyone who wasn’t able to attend, access to our Spring Fling webinar archives is currently available for purchase. Please visit our Spring Fling page and click on the event you’re interested in for full information.

CLA’s next training events will take place at the annual conference, November 2–4, in San Jose. Don’t miss out! For full conference information and to register, please visit our conference website.

About the Spring Fling:

With its mix of training events and cultural programs, the Spring Fling is a smaller, spring-time companion to CLA’s larger conference events in the fall. Spring Fling programs are presented in California libraries and online over a period of ten or so weeks from March to May.

Each event is organized by a CLA Interest Group. In 2012, the Academic, Information Technology, Library History, Literacy, Management, Reference, Student, Technical Services, and Youth Services Interest Groups all presented Spring Fling programs. Thank you very much to Infopeople which allowed CLA to use its webinar technology and enabled us to provide the 2012 online training workshops.
