Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific; Long Beach, California

Interpreted exhibits and answered questions at touch labs and artifacts carts. Also opened and closed touch labs, set up artifacts carts, and greeted guests.

Library Technician                                                June 2003 – September 2009
Charles Drew University; Los Angeles, California

Provided expert original and copy cataloging of books, e-books, bound journal volumes, and video and audio media, added required stamps, labels, and security tags to cataloged items, performed multiple duties at the Circulation desk, maintained the reserve collection, provided reference service, kept and analyzed statistics related to both library and book usage, assisted with selecting, ordering, and receiving library materials, prepared journals for the bindery, traded for replacement issues of journals using BackMed listserv, supervised Pages and work study students, managed the library on weekends, and kept notes for all library staff meetings.

Projects I was involved with included: assisted with an inventory of the library’s collections, helped clean-up and reformat catalog records during the transition from one integrated library system to another, and was part of the committee that updated the Cataloging manual.
Also, when the Library was remodeled, I helped with both the relocation of the journal collection and merger of the non-medical books and medical books collections into one single book collection.

Handled multiple Circulation desk tasks, provided expert original and copy cataloging of books, video media, and audio media, processed cataloged items, updated the catalog records for a section of the journal collection which had been moved off-site, and designed an educational display for the lobby of the library.

As the only member of the library staff, I provided reference service, handled all Circulation desk tasks, catalogued most of the books in the collection, managed subscriptions to periodicals, received and processed new journal issues, kept track of book usage statistics, ordered supplies, maintained the computers and audio-visual equipment, worked with instructors during class visitations, and conducted library orientations for new students.
Projects undertaken included: converted the library from Dewey Decimal to the Library of Congress system, authored and printed informational brochures about the Library, compiled a list of Internet resources useful to students, used MS Access to design a catalog database for the book collection, assembled a procedures manual for the Library, and put together a card catalog.
Also, I helped move the library on two occasions. The first move was to a new location on campus. The second time was part of South Coast College’s move to a new campus.
