Angelica Guererro Fortin, Paso Robles City Library

Board Candidate

Integrity. Respect. Dedication to public service.  These are my guiding principles and, if elected, the principles I will uphold within my service to CLA.  I respectfully request your support as we work together to strengthen California libraries as leaders in innovation and lifelong learning.

Candidate Statement

CLA plays a critical role in providing continuing education and advocacy for today’s modern library.  Through programs such as Lunch at the Library, CLA is strategically positioning libraries to respond creatively and with measurable impact to the needs of our communities.  As a member of the Board, my goals include exploring additional opportunities to provide tools for California Libraries to collectively demonstrate their impact. In addition, as a firm believer in the power of mentorship, I would like to work towards strengthening opportunities for increased recruitment, mentorship and development of professional and para-professional staff that is reflective of the diverse communities we serve.

Deciding by the time she was in 3rd grade that she would be a librarian, Angelica Fortin’s 13-year career in libraries has included service at every level, including shelving, circulation, reference, and branch management at both school and public libraries.  Over the past 10 years, she worked for the San Diego County Library, most recently serving as a Principal Librarian overseeing program services for 33 branches, a system-wide volunteer program, staff training, and bookmobile services. Fortin currently serves as the City Librarian for the Paso Robles City Library. As part of her professional development, she has participated in the Eureka Library Leadership Institute, ALA Emerging Leaders Program, and CLA Lunch at the Library committee. Fortin has served as an ALA Councilor at Large and as a local chapter Chair for REFORMA, the National Association to promote Library and Information Services to the Spanish speaking. Empowering communities, equitable access, and responsive services that promote lifelong learning and discovery is what drives Fortin’s passion to continue serving the public.
