New Portola Library Opens Doors

On Saturday, February 28, Mayor Gavin Newsom, City Librarian Luis Herrera, Chinese lion dancers and musicians will join Portola neighborhood residents to celebrate the opening of their eagerly awaited new library.

The $3.2 million new library brings the neighborhood expanded book collections, a special area for teens, a spacious children's room, multi-lingual materials needed by an increasingly diverse population, and a community meeting room to support public and private events after library hours.

The design team, a joint venture of Noll & Tam Architects and Stoner Meek Architects, worked closely with the Portola residents to create a light, beautiful, and welcoming building.

Christopher Noll, AIA, Principal of Noll & Tam, says, "We wanted to engage people passing by and draw people in."

The celebration of the new Portola Library, located at 380 Bacon Street in San Francisco, will begin at 1:00 pm.
