Fund Established to Honor Gordon Conable
Gordon Conable, LSSI vice president for public library operations, died unexpectedly at his home on January 12, 2005 at the age of 57. Gordon was well known within the American and California Library Associations. He was the current president of the Freedom to Read Foundation, a member of ALA Council and the CLA Assembly, and an expert on and passionate defender of intellectual freedom issues in libraries.
Since 1998, Gordon was principal project manager for the Riverside County Library System and was also involved in the operation of the Hemet and Calabasas public libraries as well as several other public library projects across the country.
The Freedom to Read Foundation has established a fund in Gordon's name which will be used to advance the causes to which Gordon was most devoted and for which he worked most passionately. Irene, his wife, asked that any gifts in Gordon's name be directed to this fund.
You can donate to the Gordon M. Conable Memorial Fund by calling Jonathan Kelley at (800) 545-2433 ext. 4226, or contacting him at jkelley@ala.org. Alternatively, you can send a check, payable to the Freedom to Read Foundation, to the Gordon M. Conable Memorial Fund, c/o Freedom to Read Foundation, 50 E. Huron St., Chicago, IL 60611. Notification of gifts will be sent to Gordon's family.
Gordon is survived by his wife and his son.
