California libraries: please sign up for Snapshot Day today!
Taking Part in Snapshot Day is Easy!
Our website contains all the
information you will need for planning your library's Snapshot Day,
collecting and
submitting data, and utilizing your
results.
Will you join us? Email your library name and URL to snapshot@cla-net.org and we'll add your library to our
list of participants. Let CLA know why you're taking part so that we can use your endorsement to encourage other libraries to participate!

CLA is asking all California libraries to collect usage data, photos, and patron testimonials on California Library Snapshot Day: Monday, October 4 or on any day during that week.
Snapshot Day will help CLA capture data to create a compelling picture of library services in California. The results, which will show how many people use California’s libraries on a given day, will provide a critical and invaluable advocacy tool for us all.
CLA will use the data to advocate with legislators at the state and local level, and to demonstrate the value and importance of libraries to California’s citizens. We will also package the data so that you can use them in local advocacy efforts.
Additionally, by holding Snapshot Day events (for which we have provided promotional materials e.g. poster/flyer templates, graphics, bookmark templates, sample press releases etc), libraries can also use the day as a public relations effort to showcase the library to the community.
Promoting the value of libraries is essential for their sustainability. But Snapshot Day will only be successful if we ALL participate. The more libraries that take part, the stronger our voice will be, and the greater impact we will have when we advocate for library funding.
We know that everyone is facing cutbacks and staff shortages. And that is why CLA has developed resources to make taking part in Snapshot Day as easy as possible. Also, our staff and a team of librarians from all library types are on hand to help you plan and manage your Snapshot Day.
Please email snapshot@cla-net.org to let us know you’re taking part and get the help you need.
California Library Snapshot Day is part of a national campaign! Please see the
American Library Association website for more information.
