|CLA Elections 2015 - Laura Seaholm|
Laura Seaholm, Contra Costa County Library
Board of Directors
Serving on CLA’s Advocacy and Legislative committee for six years, and chairing the committee the last two of those years, has demonstrated to me how essential a strong state library association is to the health of our local communities.
Libraries champion the cause of literacy for all ages and are critical to personal freedom and a democratic society. Everything libraries do directly or indirectly benefits all residents of California. As such, I am pursuing a seat on the CLA Board to continue to drive the important work that CLA does – strengthening libraries and keeping libraries free for all.
I am energetic, inclusive, organized, and results-oriented. I would work tirelessly to keep CLA and California libraries strong and vibrant.
Laura Seaholm has eight years of experience managing the Contra Costa County Library's adult literacy program. Prior to this Laura served as the program’s Tutor/Student Coordinator for two years.
Laura has served on the California Library Association’s Advocacy and Legislative committee for six years, chairing the committee the last two years. During her tenure, she has seen first-hand the power of an active, involved citizenry. She helped drive restoration of state funding for libraries and literacy, which had been zeroed out in 2011/2012, to nearly $15mm for the upcoming 2015/2016 fiscal year.
Laura's previous career was in the financial services sector for 24 years. She has a Bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
