Jan Sanders, Pasadena Public Library

Board of Directors

Candidate Statement

I am pleased to have the opportunity to run for a Board member position.  As a member, you know that CLA has undergone some big changes, updates, improvements during the past year or so.  We have become much more financially responsible and solid, we have encouraged innovation and experimentation, and we have continued to work actively with our sponsors, vendors, and other partners.  Serving on the Board during all this activity has given me a chance to really understand our organization and to offer thoughts and my own advice, having served in four other state library organizations.

I would welcome the opportunity to provide continuity to the board through another term.  I think I still have ideas to share, and I know I am still very interested and dedicated to the organization.  If you feel I can offer some assets, I hope you will vote for me.

Biography

Jan Sanders is Director of Libraries and Information Services for the City of Pasadena.   She has been in libraries for more than 40 years, serving as children’s librarian, bookmobile librarian, branch manager, community college librarian, and library construction supervisor before becoming a director in 1990.

Because she believes a librarian is first and foremost accountable to the community she serves, Jan is active in a number of community organizations.  She is a board member and committee chair for Pasadena Rotary Club, is a member of the Vestry at All Saints Episcopal Church, and is a past member of the board for Leadership Pasadena.  She is on the board of the Pasadena Museum of History and the Pasadena: City of Learning Committee, Mayor’s committee.  Jan also serves as advisory board member for the library science programs at both the Pasadena City College (PCC) and the University of Southern California (USC).

Jan is a flexible, visionary leader and is excited about the possibilities open for today’s libraries, especially the Pasadena Public Library.
