CLA 2014 Day in the District was a success!
Thank you for participating in CLA’s 2014 Day in the District! This local, grass roots, relational approach to advocacy is crucial to maintaining and growing state funding for libraries.
We received positive feedback from many of you who were able to speak with your legislators on the importance of the Public Library Broadband Initiative; SCA 7, which seeks to lower the vote threshold for local construction bonds and special taxes from the current two-thirds vote to 55%; and SB 1455, which seeks to place a major library construction measure on the 2016 ballot.
If you haven’t already shared feedback from your meeting(s), please email the CLA Legislative Committee letting us know with whom you met and any information from your meetings that you think is relevant.
And if you didn’t have a chance to participate in Day in the District, it’s never too late! Advocacy is a year-round effort. You can Find your Assembly Member or State Senator here here and use these tips on how to schedule a meeting and lobby a legislator.
Thank you again to all who helped make CLA’s 2014 Day in the District so successful. Making our voices heard was critical as we enter into Senate, Assembly and important Budget Committee Hearings. Please stay tuned for News from the Capitol updates on how the hearings progress, as well as any Calls to Action, asking you to write letters in support of our legislative priorites.
