Congrats to the Los Angeles Public Library and Sacramento Public Library on being selected as finalists from California for the 2014 National Medal for Museum and Library Service!

Carla Arbagey has been appointed as the new Electronic Resources Librarian at the University of California, Riverside Libraries.  Mrs. Arbagey has worked at the UCR Libraries since 2002 , starting as a student assistant, then a library assistant, and now as a professional librarian.

The California State Library is pleased to announce a call for applications for the Public Library Staff Education Program. This tuition reimbursement program is for library staff pursuing their MLIS or Library Support Staff Certification. Library employees who have successfully worked in a California public library or county law library for at least one year and are enrolled in an MLIS or LSSC program are eligible to apply. Whittier Public Library opened its new Veterans Resource Center on February 11. Trained volunteers staff the Center five days a week to provide information and referrals to veterans and their families about benefits available to them in education, employment, health, housing, disability comp, and more.  The Center was established with a grant from the California State Library in partnership with CalVet.
