Member Spotlight: CLA Member of the Year!
Patricia “Patty” Wong
If you’ve been around libraries in California for any amount of time you’ve most likely heard of Patty Wong, County Librarian/Chief Archivist of the Yolo County Library. Deciding to name Patty the 2013 CLA Member of the Year was an easy decision. She is active at all levels of the library profession: local, state and national. She is an outstanding role model for those just entering the profession.
Within the last four years, under Patty’s leadership and with the backing of a great staff, Yolo County Library constructed 2 new branches, completed the remodeling of its largest facility, opened a new satellite location and established the countywide 211 service. In addition, she is leading the charge in the library to cultivate a culture of inclusion, developing a strategic plan based on community-centered engagement.
Within CLA, Patty has served on the Advocacy and Legislative Committee. She has been called upon many times to testify in legislative hearings. Her willingness to speak up on library issues and library funding questions is greatly appreciated by the California library community. She is a passionate advocate for libraries!
Patty is also active in ALA and has recently been elected to serve on ALA Council. In addition to ALA, Patty is also an active member of several of the ethnic caucuses. Outside of ALA, she is a mentor alumni of the Eureka Leadership Program.
But Patty’s greatest accomplishments are her son and daughter! She is proud mom to UC Berkeley freshman Michael and award-winning cheer athlete Sarah.
