Conference Updates: Long Beach 2013

Stay up late, get up early, and Make Some Noise!

Don’t miss out on what everyone will be talking about Monday morning, Prom! Come celebrate the best of California’s libraries at the Awards Gala; then stay to see the Prom King and Queen crowned and dance the night away. There will be a photo opportunity, so find your old prom dress and dig out those ruffled tuxedo shirts- they still fit, right? Space is limited - so make sure to get your tickets before time runs out!

Even though you may be blurry-eyed on Monday morning from the previous nights exploits, get up early to hear Henry Rollins. He will be sure to wake you up, fire you up, and kick off conference with a bang. Known for his intensity as a speaker on personal and political topics, Henry is sure to get your neurons firing, even at 8:30 am! If ever there was a keynote speaker appropriate to our conference theme, Henry Rollins is the one.

Monday night we’re going to keep on making noise at Battle Decks and Librarians Got Talent.  Come join us for some fun, comic improv presentations and a talent show. Get your tap shoes out of storage, tune your guitar, or practice that magic trick one more time.  There is still time to sign up to showcase your talents, please contact Jennifer Baker at jennifer@shpl.org (subject line: Battledecks/Talent Show).  We can’t wait to see you shine!

Don't miss out on the Exhibit Hall.  Not only will there be exhibitors - check out the poster presentations, the career center, and be sure to join the scavenger hunt- you’ll never know what you’ll find besides chocolates and free pens.

There is still room on the Queen Mary tour, make sure to reserve your spot today.  Learn about her historic and colorful past on a self guided audio tour. You might even see a ghost or two.  Tour will meet on Sunday, November 3rd in the Hyatt Regency lobby at 11am.

With the increased focus on interactivity and collaboration in this year’s breakout sessions, there should be some dynamic and thought-provoking sessions all throughout conference.  I will be looking for you at conference, come and Make Some Noise!
