Kimberlee Wheeler for CLA Board, Student Representative

Statement of Concerns

My name is Kimberlee Wheeler and I am very pleased to introduce myself on behalf of this great student opportunity with CLA. I have lived in Chico, Butte County for many years, having stayed in the area after graduating from Chico State with my Bachelor's Degree. As a Bay Area native, I never realized that I would live in Chico so long, but the lovely environment and friendly people have kept me, my husband and pets quite happy.

The opprtunity to represent students through CLA would be a tremendous honor. I am very interested in CLA because the organization has given me access and the ability to interact with my library peers throughout the state. I was convinced to become a library student at the 2010 CLA conference in Sacramento and have only grown more fond of the organization in learning about the history of CLA through my own library's centennial year events. CLA always played an active part in the health and vitality of my library system, and I would be overjoyed to represent library students by working with the Board of Directors in the year ahead.

Kimberlee Wheeler's Background

My name is Kimberlee Wheeler, and I am delighted to be a nominee for Student Representative to the Board of CLA. I am currently enjoying my second year at San Jose State in the MLIS program, while also working in Youth Services at the Paradise Branch of the Butte County Library. Working with youth in a public library is extremely rewarding and allows me to utilize my prior experiences as a bookseller and outreach coordinator. Library management, history and archives are also of great interest. As a CLA member, I have enjoyed working with the Begun Scholarship Committee, the Hall of Fame Committee, and the history, youth and management interest groups. There is truly no better time to be a member and active part of CLA, as the leadership of today has a profound effect on inspiring the leaders of tomorrow. I would be deeply honored to represent my fellow California library students in this role. Thank you again for voting, and here's to a great year ahead!
