Statement of Concerns

I recently attended a "Lead the Change" workshop and was inspired by many of the things I heard that day. In particular, the statement "we (libraries) create environments where people can change their own lives" really struck a chord in me and is now something I talk about when others ask me about libraries and why they are relevant in today's society. I am happy that the work I do on a daily basis contributes in some way to those peoples' lives.

Mary Cohen's Background

Mary Cohen started in libraries 20 years as a student at Colorado College. After a 2-week stint in the Peace Corps, she returned to CC briefly before graduating with her MLIS from the University of Kentucky in 1999. She worked as a cataloger at Library Associates in Los Angeles before being hired at the Palos Verdes Library District as a reference and cataloging librarian in 2000. She become the Technical Services Dept. Head there in 2001. In her spare time, she and her husband Josh watch movies, dote over their 2 bunny rabbits, and make regular visits to Disneyland. Mary is also a wine enthusiast who loves wine tasting and is always looking to expand her wine knowledge.
