Marta Fuchs, MLS, was recently interviewed on WGN TV and had an article in the Huffington Post about her new book, Legacy of Rescue: A Daughter’s Tribute, an intergenerational memoir about her father and the Righteous Gentile who saved him and over 100 Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust. Barnaby Hughes, a MLIS student at San Jose State University, has been awarded a travel grant to attend the Annual Meeting of the Society for Scholarly Publishing in San Francisco June 5-7, 2013.
Robin Gustafson is now Head of Access Services at UC Davis, Peter J. Shields Library effective May 15, 2013.
June 13 and 15, 2013 will mark the UCLA hooding ceremony and commencement of Dr. Sylva Natalie Manoogian, PhD in Library and Information Science. Her return to academia after more than 4 decades as a library professional began in January 2003. Her dissertation is titled: "The Calouste Gulbenkian Library, Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem, 1925-1990: An Historical Portrait of a Monastic and Lay Community Intellectual Resource Center".
On May 4th, Upland Public Library held a lively panel discussion on “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” as part of their “Upland Reads One Book” initiative. Inland Valley Daily Bulletin columnist and blogger David Allen interviewed urban farmers Rishi Kumar of The Growing Home and Doug McGoon from Foothill Kitchens. The book influenced Kumar and McGoon on how their "normal" farming and gardening techniques differ from those used by industrial farms, how government regulations geared to large agribusiness ventures and mass consumption affects their work practices, and how one may incorporate more eco-responsible ways of eating and gardening at home.
