Congratulations to Rancho Cucamonga Public Library
CLA is thrilled to congratulate member library, Rancho Cucamonga Public Library, on its 2013 IMLS National Medal for Museum and Library Service!
Rancho Cucamonga Public Library serves a highly diverse community in one of California’s fastest growing areas. The library incorporates rich cultural programming while maintaining a strong focus on family and multi-generational involvement. A series of Cultural Arts Nights showcase culture while Back 2 Basics supports children who read below grade level. Play and Learn IslandsTM(PALs), small scale exhibits that introduce play into libraries, are extremely popular and feature interactive elements and books to help children develop problem solving, reading and writing, spatial relations, motor, collaboration, and creative skills. Since their 2009 introduction, Rancho Cucamonga has loaned PALs at no cost to 35 California library jurisdictions.
Assistant Library Director and CLA Board Member, Michelle Perera said: "The City of Rancho Cucamonga is truly honored that the Rancho Cucamonga Library is one of the recipients of the National Medal for Museum and Library Service. In addition to striving to provide innovative, engaging, and transformational services and programs to our community, we are also dedicated to collaborating with California Libraries so being recognized by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for making exceptional contributions to our community is indeed a great honor."
The National Medal is the nation’s highest honor conferred on museums and libraries for service to the community, and it celebrates institutions that make a difference for individuals, families, and communities. Rancho Cucamonga joins CLA member libraries Contra Costa County Library (2012) and San José Public Library (2011) in being awarded this honor. Other California recipients include the Discovery Science Center, Santa Ana (2013) and the Japanese American National Museum, Los Angeles (2010).
Congratulations to Rancho Cucamonga Public Library and all of California’s national medal winners!
