As with many of the individual organizations in which CLA members work, two-way communication is absolutely essential to ensuring a shared vision and a positive working relationship among the various parts of an organization. There are several items coming up in the immediate future that require input from or communication by the membership.
We will soon be asking you for feedback on several topics including membership benefits, the Insider newsletter, and ALA Council. In addition, we are very excited to have a portion of the CLA Conference program sessions selected by way of crowdsourcing this year. Our erstwhile Program Committee is working away to give you the opportunity to have a voice in choosing which programs to offer.
Last but absolutely not least, the recent communications from the CLA Legislative & Advocacy Committee urge members to write letters in support of CLA’s legislative priorities for the year: making a high speed fiber internet backbone accessible to every single public library building in California (using the same network that already serves K-12 schools, community colleges, and both the UC and CSU systems) and restoring some of the lost California Library Literacy Services funding. Details are available on the CLA website.
As we move towards our November conference with the “Let’s Make Some Noise!” theme, there are plenty of opportunities for you to make some noise that can help CLA serve you better, as well as securing additional library funding from the State of California. I look forward to hearing your voices in response to each and every one of these important items. Thanks in advance!
