2013 CLA Legislative Day in Sacramento Events
Dear CLA Members,
In case you have been looking for the date for CLA Legislative Day in Sacramento, you can stop now. The Legislative Committee has determined that the approach to speaking with our politicos is going to be a little different this year. There are several bills on Assembly and Senate desks right now, but not all are likely to make it through the full session.
Also, some of the faces in Sacramento are new and may not know exactly what the impact of proposals might be to their local jurisdiction. Therefore, we are asking you to make a special effort to contact your people while they are in the district and chat with them. While coming to Sacramento is a wonderful effort, we are often out-numbered by other groups and other issues, sometimes making our comments less than impactful. You can make a real connection as you know the people and the issues and can effectively tell them what they need to know. So take some time from your busy schedule to meet with them, or just speak to them as you run into them around town.
The Legislative Committee will prepare talking points on all the proposals for you to use as you need them.
And never fear, we WILL be working in Sacramento as well. Experience has taught us that strategic, planned, well-placed comments can make a true difference. The Legislative Committee, therefore, will work to identify the perfect library personnel to address each issue as it moves forward. As always we will be guided by the expertise of Mike Dillon and Christine DiCaro, who always know just the legislators who need to hear from us and what we need to say. Working in cooperation with the members of CLA, our political experts, and the committee members, we will stay focused on the items that matter most to you and your library.
