Management Team Message
Thank You For Volunteering!
What keeps an organization like the California Library Association going? VOLUNTEERS! Not much gets done without the thousands of hours put in by our many member volunteers. Stop and think about it for a moment:
Officers and board members: all volunteers who have agreed to give their time to this organization. They put in countless hours reading documents in preparation for every board meeting and serving on behalf of the membership. Many of them also serve on one or more of CLA’s committees.
Scholarship committees: again, all committees comprise volunteers who are interested in giving back to this community. Every CLA scholarship is handled by groups of folks who read many high-quality applications each year before deciding who will receive a CLA scholarship.
Other committees: more volunteers, all participating in a variety of ways. For example, the Beatty Award committee members read through hundreds of books before deciding which one will be honored!
How do people get appointed to these committees? They step up! Volunteering is a wonderful way to give back to your profession at the state level, to meet colleagues from throughout the state, and to start your move up CLA’s leadership ladder.
Vice-President Deborah Doyle will soon be making committee appointments for FY13/14. If you’ve thought about getting involved with CLA, now is the time to let us know. Contact Associate Executive Director Natalie Cole (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you want to be considered for a committee.
Here are just some of the committees available for you:
Conference planning (for the 2014 conference)
Governance and Bylaws
Advocacy and Legislation
Awards & Scholarships
CLA is a wonderful organization, but we can’t do it without you. Thank you very much to everyone who contributes their time to the association!
