I am writing this column with a bit of sadness. You see, this will be my last newsletter article as your CLA President. Derek Wolfgram assumed the presidency at the annual conference and I am confident he will continue to take CLA even further. But, as you’ll see from the annual report provided in this month’s newsletter, we have so much to be proud of this last year. I hope you read this newsletter with as much awe and astonishment as I did. With your help, CLA and its members have accomplished a great deal!
Winston Churchill once said: “It’s no use saying, ‘We are doing our best’. You have got to succeed in doing what is necessary.” This past year should be marked as the year we did what was necessary—and we did it well. As a result, our organization is growing stronger and I am proud of us all for working together so diligently—particularly in the face of so many great challenges.
I want to personally thank the Board of Directors and our association management team at PIC (particularly Carol Simmons, Linda Crowe, and Rosario Garza) for their continued efforts to ensure that CLA is a vital part of the library world. If you were in San José at the CLA conference, I hope you enjoyed and benefited from it as much as I did. I look forward to seeing you next year in Long Beach!
CLA President, 2011-2012
