Gov. Brown signed the budget bill. Libraries and Literacy Prevailed!
After a long, difficult battle, WE PREVAILED! The Governor signed the budget bill and he left $4.7 million in funding for libraries and literacy intact for the 2012/2013 fiscal year! Library-based literacy programs will receive $2.82 million, and CLSA will receive $1.88 million. The total of $4.7 million (added to a $300,000 contribution from the State Library) will protect $15 million in federal matching dollars, and will ensure that most literacy programs throughout the state will keep their doors open.
As I mentioned in a prior email, we owe an enormous debt of gratitude to our lobbyists, the Dillons. I am inspired by their dedication to our cause. But the Dillons could not have done it without all of you!! Your letter writing helped make the difference!! Thank you!!
I will, of course, be back in touch with other relevant legislative updates, and as we gear up for the 2013/2014 fiscal year.
