Meet Your IT Team

Since July 2011, CLA has had access to a full IT team! Each team member has both a basic knowledge of overall technology, and a specific IT skillset, which allows us to effectively develop CLA’s technology and offer tailored support to members. The team includes an IT Director who oversees and directs IT operations; a Webmaster who maintains the CLA website, creates new sites and forms, and supports webcasts; and a Systems Engineer who implements and supports servers and new technologies. Two additional members (who are not technically IT but who help out so much we consider them part of the group!) are CLA’s Operations Manager and Programs Director.

ask cla logoTechnology is created and implemented when we identify a need or when an idea is presented. For example, CLA’s helpdesk was created as a result of an interaction I had with my local city: One night, I had a question for the city but could not call them because it was 2:00am. As I opened a helpdesk ticket on the city’s website, I thought: “I’m sure I’m not the only one who works in the middle of the night or has ideas or questions at that time. Why not implement a helpdesk system for CLA where members can submit a question or share an idea, on any topic, no matter what time it is?” As a result, @sk CLA was created. Not only does @sk CLA allow members to submit questions and suggestions at any time, it also allows us to route questions to the appropriate person—ensuring that we provide the best possible service to members.

What is IT working on at the moment? The new CLA site was developed and implemented in March 2011. As a result of feedback from members, we are now reorganizing content on the site to make it easier to navigate and more user-friendly. Our work is based on a thorough evaluation of the site, which was conducted by a small group of UCLA students as part of their Information Architecture class requirements. Thank you very much to the group for their great work! We are also updating the conference website regularly, so please check back in if you haven’t visited in a while.

Please give the helpdesk a try and submit any suggestions, questions, or ideas you have for CLA—especially your IT feedback! We are a group of IT geeks and we love implementing new technology and receiving ideas or suggestion from members!
