Samantha Guerrero for CLA Board, Student Representative

Statement of Concerns

I would be delighted to serve my library community by participating on the CLA board. My experiences as a graduate student will provide an alternate viewpoint that will contribute to discussions pertaining not only to current California library workers, but also other aspiring information professions currently applying for or studying to achieve their degrees in Library and Information Science. I am also actively involved with the Graduate community as the co-president of the ALA Student Chapter at UCLA. If you elect me your student representative for the CLA board, I would develop a remarkable experience for current UCLA graduate students through increased collaboration with CLA and facilitate better relations with other graduate students in California, including those attending San Jose State. Thus, I endeavor to positively affect current and future California Library employees on both a local and state-wide level.

Samantha Guerrero's Background

My name is Samantha Guerrero and I am a second-year graduate student at UCLA’s Graduate School of Education and Information Studies. I recently graduated summa cum laude and with college honors with a Bachelors of Arts degree in History from UCLA in 2011. Throughout my college career, I have worked part-time as a Library Page and Jr. Library Clerk at the City of Torrance while attending school full-time. My current graduate studies reflect my varied interests in e-books in public libraries, circulation and acquisitions, access to information, and digitization of collections. With six years as an employee in a California public library, four years as a dedicated user of California academic libraries and a current graduate student studying to achieve my MLIS, I can provide an extensive and diverse contribution to topics pertinent to California Libraries from a Graduate student’s perspective.
