Barbara Flynn for CLA Treasurer

Statement of Concerns

Fiscal responsibility and accountability have been watchwords for me throughout my library career, whether I was accounting for materials spending as a part of collection development, building and administering a budget as a Library Director, or participating in decision making as a member of the Board of Directors of the California Library Association. In these increasingly difficult economic times, fiscal responsibility and accountability have become more important than ever. As treasurer, I will work with all members of the Board to insure that association dollars are spent wisely and well. In addition, I will insure that adequate and correct records of accounts are kept, and that all reports of the financial status of CLA will be submitted in a timely and correct manner to the Board of Directors and to the membership.

 Barbara Flynn's Background

Barbara has worked in public libraries throughout her career serving as AV Director for the Chicago Public Library, a Library Director in IL, in various positions in Anaheim and Orange County, as Deputy Director in San Diego County, and her current position of County Librarian for the Contra Costa County Library. Barbara is an active member of CLA and has given various presentations at CLA conferences, the most recent being on customer service. She is a member of ALA Council, and has been a member of the CLA Board for the past three years. She likes to travel, read mysteries (the ‘cosy’ type), and indulge in being a very amateur photographer. She is also an aspiring writer and is currently doing research on a Civil War soldier for a possible biography
