Tour of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising
Attendees enjoyed a private tour of the museum at the Fashion Institute of Design and Marketing, presented
by CLA's Reference Interest Group on Saturday April 14, 2012. The program was led by David McFadden, chair of CLA's Library History Interest Group.
The tour took place before the museum opened for visitors and lasted for one hour, after which participants strolled at their leisure through the exhibits, before lunch at Yojie Shabu Shabu Japanese Fondue & Sake Bar.
The current special exhibit is FIDM's twentieth anniversary Art of Motion Picture Costume Design exhibition. Celebrating the art and industry of costume designers, the exhibition presents more than 100 costumes from twenty films released in 2011. It includes selected costumes from all five 2012 Academy Award® Nominees for Costume Design: W/E, Hugo, Jane Eyre, The Artist, and Anonymous. Highlighted in the exhibition is the 2011 Academy Award® winner for Costume Design, Alice in Wonderland. The exhibition also showcases classic film costumes from the FIDM Museum collection and the Department of Recreation and Parks, City of Los Angeles, Historic Hollywood Collection. Some of these same costumes were featured during the first Art of Motion Picture Costume Design exhibition in 1993.
