WORK EXPERIENCE:

UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO
Sept. 1990 to present.  Administrative Assistant II in the NROTC Department. I order and issue uniforms and books to the NROTC students.  I update the uniform and book inventory in the Navy’s NJUMS computer program. I check-out, keep track of student book records and check-in naval science books. I maintain a small naval science book and audiovisual collection. I use MS Word, Excel, Power Point,
E-mail, the Internet, Kronos and Oracle. I do searching on the Internet and I order books for our NROTC classes on NJUMS. I also use USD’s Circuit and Innovative Interfaces to order books for myself. Periodically, I have supervised Navy personnel working in the supply office and bookroom. I received several bonus awards and Certificates of Recognition from the president of the university. I have trained the new storekeepers in the operation of the office. I have seventeen years as manager of the command’s book collection/small library.
 
SAN DIEGO PUBLIC LIBRARY
1987-1991. Librarian II. I told stories in English and Spanish to the children, participated in the summer reading program, and helped the patrons with reference questions. I spoke Spanish to the Spanish-speaking patrons and I went shopping for books in Tijuana with the branch librarian. I selected books to be purchased for the branch and weeded old and outdated books. I searched for books in the library’s computer catalog. Experience with: circulation, reference, children’s services, collection development, outreach and database searching. I worked in an ethnically diverse environment. Visited elementary schools in San Ysidro and Logan Heights and talked to the children about the library services we offered. I also visited Logan Elementary School on career day and talked to the children about how to become a librarian.
 
UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN
1978-80 – Clerk/Typist.   I worked in the main library, in the Benson Latin American Collection and in the Chemistry Library doing research, working at the circulation desk, helping library users find books and reference materials. I frequently spoke Spanish to the library patrons.
 
TEXAS STATE LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES
1985 –Acquisitions Assistant - I checked in the periodicals, did research in the reference library, and updated the expenditures on a spreadsheet over the computer.
 
DAILY TEXAN, AUSTIN CITIZEN, AUSTIN AMERICAN STATESMAN
1975 to 1980’s. – Art Reviewer. I wrote art reviews of art exhibits in the museums which were published in these newspapers.

SAN DIEGO MUSEUM OF ART LIBRARY
May 1995 to January 1997, 2003. I shelved books, filed articles and slides, helped library users find books and other library materials, helped with copy cataloging.

SAN DIEGO MUSEUM OF MAN - SCIENTIFIC LIBRARY
January - June 1987. I helped the museum librarian shelve, file and organize the museum library.
 
SAN DIEGO HISTORICAL SOCIETY RESEARCH LIBRARY & ARCHIVES
2010. I entered transcripts of oral histories from the early 1900s into a computer and did proofreading. I used MS Word.
Previous experience. I worked on processing the glass negatives from the San Diego Union-Tribune collection.
January - June 1987. I helped the library users find maps, books and archival material. Processed donated archival material.

SPECIAL SKILLS:  

BILINGUAL: English/Spanish.
Experienced user of the Internet. I am familiar with Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Hotmail and many other websites. Experience using the San Diego Public Library’s circulation programs. Familiarity and experience searching online library databases and electronic journals from the University of San Diego and the County of San Diego Library catalog. I have used the “Ask a Librarian” feature many times and I have used the translation feature to translate the county library’s website. I have ordered many books through the CIRCUIT at the University of San Diego and I have done searching in the university’s online databases. I have checked and read children’s books from the children’s room at USD and attended a storytelling there. I use KRONOS and ORACLE programs regularly.
