Library/Community Services Director
Hayward Public Library
Term Ends: 10/31/2014
Sean is the Director of Library and Community Services for the city of Hayward, California, located in the heart of the sunny and diverse East Bay Area. His areas of responsibility include public library services, community grant programs including CDBG and Social Services Program grants, housing rehabilitation programs, and Paratransit services for one of the most diverse urban communities in the nation. He earned his MLIS degree from San José State University School of Library and Information Science in 2009.
Sean was elected to the California Library Association board of directors in 2009, during a time of tremendous change for the association and the profession. In 2011, he was elected to serve as the CLA-ALA Chapter Councilor. He has a deep and abiding commitment to the library community and especially to CLA. He is an active member of numerous professional and service organizations, and actively contributes his knowledge and shares his own library’s “best practices” with the wider library community.
Sean passionately believes that the future for California libraries holds much promise, particularly in the areas of advocacy, professional development, and public image and branding of libraries on the statewide level. Partnerships and joint ventures also feature prominently in his vision for CLA in the future, in particular stronger partnerships with other library associations and in California, to create more common ground between practitioners in public, academic, school and special libraries statewide.
In his free time, Sean enjoys hiking, gardening, carpentry, printmaking, travelling, and the company of his family and friends. Oh, and reading, of course~!
