|July 28, 2015 - California Center for the Book|
I hope that you saw the announcement on July 1 that the California Center for the Book is now a project of CLA. This is a terrific new alliance for us, and I’m looking forward to collaborating with Natalie Cole, Robert Karatsu, Misty Jones and everyone at CLA.
In case you’re not familiar with us, CCFB is an affiliate of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, which has affiliate centers in all fifty states. These affiliates carry out the national Center's mission, sponsoring programs that highlight their state’s literary heritage and calling attention to the importance of books, reading, literacy and libraries. The state affiliates coordinate participation in the national Letters About Literature competition sponsored by the Library of Congress, and we all exhibit at the National Book Festival which the LOC has helped organize since 2001. There has been a California Center for the Book since 1987, primarily supported by the California State Library and housed at various times at the State Library, Cal State Los Angeles, and UCLA’s Graduate School of Education and Information Studies.
At conference in Pasadena, we’ll be unveiling new and improved initiatives that will help you develop your skills, engage the public, foster lifelong learning, and build your community. Please visit us at the CLA booth and hear all about it!
