Job Description: The Position: This is an at-will position, appointed by and reporting to the City Manager. The Library Director shall administer all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the Library in accordance with generally accepted practices and principles of the public library profession. The incumbent will periodically review program development, collections, and community development involvement activities, ensuring that programming, services, policies, and collections are in line with community needs and demands; comply with all California laws and regulations pertaining to public library services, including, but not limited to, the California Library Services Act; represent the City at relevant library meetings, including the annual Library Association State Librarian’s Meeting, Inland Library Systems meetings, and local community meetings when appropriate. The Director may also be required to develop and recommend a Long-Range Strategic Plan for the Library. The Strategic Plan would help govern the direction and focus of the library staff in fulfillment of their mission of providing library service that meets the future needs of the citizens served by the Library. The Ideal Candidate: The City of Hemet is seeking an energetic, knowledgeable, and innovative Library Director to lead the City’s full service Library. The successful candidate will be a confident and credible leader who is willing to be involved at all levels. He or she will be open to peer and staff input and must be creative and value driven, entrepreneurial, and able to implement “best practices” whenever possible. The ideal candidate must be able to make difficult decisions, have good follow-through, and see the big picture. He or she will be diplomatic, collegial, collaborative, and proactive. The ideal candidate should have strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, and a proven record of strong management of day-to-day operations. The successful candidate will also promote the use of new and emerging technology, and be comfortable in an environment that promotes state of the art methods of delivering services to the public. The Director will have unquestionable personal integrity, display honesty, and have strong ethics. Qualifications: Possession of a Master of Library Science degree, and five years of professional library experience, including two years in a management and/or supervisory capacity.

Job Description: Under the direction of the Deputy University Librarian, the Head of the Rosenfeld Management Library is a senior level management position with broad administrative responsibility for the successful management and operations of the Rosenfeld Library. The Head of the Rosenfeld Library actively manages and maintains an exemplary, vigorous and successful partnership and collaboration between the UCLA Library and UCLA’s Anderson Graduate School of Management (AGSM). The Head of the Rosenfeld Library determines and interprets library policies, evaluates existing programs and develops new programs, sets goals and objectives, makes budget decisions, and prepares annual and other administrative reports. This includes coordinating and facilitating activities within the Rosenfeld Library, with other units in the Anderson complex and with other libraries at UCLA, other University of California (UC) campuses. Planning activities are performed through active participation on the Anderson Computing and Information Service (ACIS) Executive Committee, the UCLA Library Management Council, and other UCLA Library and UC library committees and councils. Specific responsibilities include planning for long-range and short-term needs; setting goals and problem solving to accomplish objectives; developing, implementing, and assessing programs, policies and procedures in support of user and Library needs; coordinating services within the Rosenfeld Library; coordinating Rosenfeld Library with the other units of the University Library, with AGSM, and with other campus departments; and integrating Rosenfeld Library within the Anderson Computing & Information Services Infrastructure (ACIS). Additionally, the Head is responsible for the Library’s budgets for personnel, operations, and collections totaling approximately $1.36 million, including overseeing funds from the UCLA Library and from UCLA Anderson; and for communications and coordination with the UCLA Library, UCLA Anderson, Rosenfeld Library staff, ACIS, and the Library’s user populations.
