The Library Director reports to a five-member Board of Trustees. Responsibilities include, among others, the fiscal, personnel, facilities, and operational management of the system. Job Description: The City of Burbank has an outstanding opportunity available for a qualified individual to assist the Library Services Director in planning, organizing, and directing the operations of the City’s Library department; to act as the Library Services Director as necessary; and to perform related work as required. You will plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Library Services Department; develop, maintain and provide leadership for strategic planning; direct and manage staff in a coordinated program of library services; establish goals and objectives for services and employees; evaluate the performance of subordinates; direct the planning of special activities, publicity, exhibits, and displays; manage the maintenance of records, preparation of reports and correspondence; manage, administer, coordinate, and monitor the preparation of the department’s annual budget and expenditures; select, coordinate and approve the acquisition of library equipment and services; oversee the development of library collections; manage departmental technology, acquisition, and updates; oversee library maintenance functions including custodial services, repair, maintenance and new construction; make effective recommendations regarding hiring, promotions, and transfers; effectively recommend disciplinary action up to and including termination; and occasionally drive on City business. Requires a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an accredited college or university and five years of increasingly responsible and varied professional library experience, including two years in an administrative capacity OR any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance as determined by the City. A valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent is also required at time of appointment. Additional requirements include knowledge of the principles and practices of Library and Information Science, organization, procedures, and policies; books and literature in general; and the principles and practices of sound personnel management and supervision. Ability to anticipate and discover community library needs and to adjust existing facilities and staff to meet those needs; plan and direct the work of others; formulate and direct the execution of professional programs; analyze administrative problems and develop effective solutions; effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; make oral presentations; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public is also needed.

Required Qualifications: * Ph.D. in religious studies or both a Masters in Library Science and a second Masters (M.A., M.Div., Th.M., M.T.S.) in some area of religious studies; * Eagerness to work directly with students and faculty in advanced research in religious studies; * Ability to work with library patrons from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds and commitments; * Ability to converse and write fluently in English; * Ability to speak publicly in classroom settings; * Experience in an academic library; * Comfort with technology and digital discovery and retrieval tools; and * Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
