CLA member and library PR guru Stephanie Stokes reports that the National Collaborative Summer Reading Program is underway and thriving in California and 27 other states of the union.
The Collaborative Summer Library Program is a grassroots consortium of state agencies and associations working together to provide high-quality summer reading program materials for children at the lowest cost possible for their public libraries.
The program, based this year on the journey of Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery, consists of a 500 page manual, graphics CD and other materials which unlock the door to the "Discover New Trails" theme. The program has support and partnership with the California Center for the Book, Huell Howser, Sunset and lii.org.
The journey begins at the California Summer Reading Program Collaborative Web site at http://www.casummerreading.org. Take note: the 2005 Manual, CD and other materials will be ready for shipping in August 2004.
