Presented by the CLA Technical Services Interest Group

Presenter: Terry Reese, Head, Digital Initiatives (Ohio State University Libraries) & MarcEdit Developer

Have you been looking for an efficient way to manage, edit or analyze large sets of bibliographic records?

MarcEdit, a free MARC editing utility, is designed for large-scale batch record processing, including batch editing MARC records, character set conversions, and record extractions. It also provides users with the ability to perform crosswalks between MARC and other data formats (e.g., Dublin Core). This workshop will demonstrate the features of MarcEdit and how libraries might use it to enhance workflows.

“Doing more with less” has become a common problem for all libraries. Technical services departments have been seeking efficient ways to automate the batch processing of large sets of records instead of manual handling of individual records. This workshop will provide libraries the use of MarcEdit as a tool to expedite the creation and processing of large sets of bibliographic records.

Taught by Terry Reese, the developer of MarcEdit, attendees will benefit from learning the features and uses of this tool to improve their workflows for batch processing records such as manipulating and editing vendor records, converting between MARC and non-MARC formats, etc.
