Bylaws Amendment(The proposed bylaws amendment requires a 2/3 majority of members who vote to be approved.)To clarify that a person must be a voting member to be eligible for certain privileges shall the last sentence of CLA Bylaws Article III, Section 2B be amended to read (new text in ALLCAPS):ONLY Voting Members are eligible to vote, hold elected office, and serve on committees, and receive all other member benefits.
Limited
Dues Increase(The proposed dues increase requires a 2/3 majority voting
members who vote to be approved.)RationaleIn 2004, the “top tier” for
membership was increased from salaries over $55,000 per year to $85,000
per year. Currently members making $85,000 per year or more all pay the
same dues rate.Only 10-15% of CLA members would be subject to the
proposed dues increases.By 2024, the proposed changes would be
anticipated to bring in approximately $15,000 in additional annual
revenue. This is an incremental proposal that will improve CLA's
sustainability and ability to provide member services, but it no not
completely address all of the organization's financial challenges. It is
however a step in the right direction, and it is an approach that moves
us forward without any financial impact on any current or potential
members making under $115,000 per year.Membership dues support CLA’s
professional development opportunities and advocacy efforts for
libraries. Membership provides discounted registration to the annual
conference and other CLA events; professional development opportunities
to serve through committees, interest groups, or elected office; and
access to member communications, mailing lists, and exclusive online
resources.
The Proposal Without increasing dues for individual voting
members making $114,999 or less, shall the standard individual voting
member dues structure be changed to add two additional tiers for members
making over $115,000 per year? Dues increases would be phased in over
two years, so that dues for members making $115,000 to $149,999 would
increase from $165 to $195 effective January 1, 2023, and increase again
to $230 per year effective January 1, 2024. For members making $150,000
per year or more, dues would increase from $165 to $230 effective
January 1, 2023, and increase again to $295 per year effective January
1, 2024.
